So I just noticed that my avast keeps turning itself off. It keeps saying something about “something went wrong and you need to restart you protection”. I can’t keep doing this every 10 to 15 minutes. anybody else having this problem? how do i fix it? I’ve been using Avast for years problem free, I’d hate to have to find something else to use because of this bug or whatever.

I did that. It turned itself off the second my computer booted just like before.

Did the update. Looked like it was fine for a bit then it did the exact same thing. It turned off and said something went wrong please restart.

Windows 10 64 bit that is up to date. Windows defender is on the computer but is disabled as it recognizes avast is running. I have Spybot search and destroy installed but it never gave any problems before and is up to date. Avast is the only AV that’s ever been on this computer other than Windows Defender as Microsoft kinda made that standard.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of Spybot…!!
Then:
- Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
- Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
- Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.

Okay just to be sure I am understanding you correctly, are you telling me that i need to uninstall spybot? Is that some sort of known conflict?

Uninstalled spybot. Thought that worked, it didn’t. Tried to do the rest of what you suggested, i cant use the avastclear.exe. It does not run in safemode at all.

Strange, did you get any error…?

No error. It literally does nothing. I try to open it and the mouse does the timer icon then goes back to normal. No activity at all.
