Just returned to AvastFree and I cannot seem to register properly. I went to http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php and manually registered there. Got the email with the license key but it would not accept the key. Doing it with the gui does not seem to go throught even when turning off the firewall!
Just returned using Avast and I get this simple issue. Now I was reading some in relation to this issue and all I can see is that I need to uninstall and re-install. Why is this happening? This is tiresome…
I just did an uninstall making sure that I followed the steps listed here, http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
I still cannot use the license key sent in the email…tsk. For all fairness I did it again(uinstall/reinstall). Rebooted twice now but still the same issue. Now I wonder why…
Yes, I am viewing it even earlier when I first posted. Done that but when I click the “select” nothing happens after that. Tried it several (more than 6x I think). I do not see the part where you have to provide an First Name / Last name / Email (procedure 3).
I’ll give it a rest now and try again tomorrow. If I get the same result. I’ll have to uninstall permanently. Makes me wonder why not waive the registration process for free version…I mean like this one it’s taking too long for me (been 4 hours now)…Been waiting to have this all done so I can do a system backup and then from there do my actual work. I was hoping that the offline registration will work flawlessly. In the past it has but now pffft…
tempting me to unistall permanently…
Have you chosen to block any additional features with Outposts Web Control or other tracking protection add-ons, features such as I mentioned have had negative results for me with many applications and website/page usability in the past ( something to look into possibly )
This version of Avast (build 2021) appears to not always accept the key emailed from Avast for offline registration. It may be a bug.
A work around we found is just to install an earlier build like 2018, insert the key in that version, then upgrade it to build 2021. You will find your key working there.
Just got this same problem. Avast, please update your code to accept the license key.
I have 8 days left in my registration, but I’m not jumping through hoops to downgrade, insert a key, and then upgrade AGAIN. Either fix your keygen to create what your program expects, or fix your program to accept the keys that the keymaker generates.
I just tried it myself with v.2021, and this is a glitch. I’m using a Vista Home Premium and tried it several times and I got the same errors that the other users mentioned above. Users for the Free version are now forced to get a Key or register with their email and they can’t because of these glitches. I even uninstalled and did a clean install making sure there were no traces left, and got the same errors. I was finally able to do it after…I lost count, but it took me 4 hours. Avast devs. are you listening? Fix the glitch and we’ll be much happier.
Just had similar problems re-registering with version 9.0 build 2021.
UI “register now” button indicated “downloading” but with no result.
Got 2 keys sent by email, both of which were invalid keys !
Eventually like CraigB I decided to disable my ad tracking/malware protection, in my case the MVPS hosts file. The Avast UI then worked like a dream, re-registering immediately. Clearly there is a weblink in the registration popup which some regard as suspicious, and so it can be blocked by anti malware programs.
That said, I would never operate without my MVPS in place. It’s firmly back on again now.
I had the same issues with the same version. Your tip on disabling the MVPS host file worked perfectly. Was able to register through the UI without using the offline method. Thanks! Seems ironic to me that we have to disable ad tracking/malware protection in order to re-register Avast.
