AVAST free not auto updating.

Hi Guys ‘n’ gals,
Windows’ “Action Centre” reports that AVAST needs updating but after trying manually,

all I see is the updater trying to connect but then getting a message, “Un-known error.”

I selected “Ignore” for the time being.

Are the servers down ATM or what?

Ta muchly.

Nope, I just updated the VPS.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Hi Asyn,
Way ahead of you in that respect.
Already tried those steps but still the same.

The AVAST icon is still showing the “Exclamation” mark along with Windows’ Action Centre’s flag displaying a “Red X”.

&, The Program will not update either.

Gives the “Un-known error” as well.

Will try another cold boot 'n see how we go.

  • Which version of Avast Free…?
  • Other security related software installed…?

Hi Asyn,
AVAST Version = 18.4.2338. (Build = 18.4.3895.325)

Only AVAST free is actively running.

I use these free programs, > MBAM, Super Anti-SW, SpywareBlaster & COMODO free firewall.

&, I’ve never had any other A/V program installed.

Nowt else.

I still have not done a “cold boot” but will do so…soonish.

Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/

Hi Asyn,
Yes. I saw that link before.

As I only run a 32 bit system, I don’t have all of those “Exemptions”,
just the Program & Program Data folders.

&, Apparently, after the cold boot & AVAST has had time to actually complete an update,
it’s shut up, along with Windows’ Action Centre “flag.”

Virus Defs are now showing as > 180527-2
Program is the same as posted.

So, all seems to be “back-to-normal.”

Thanks for the assist.

Regs, Mike…

ps. Now! If only we could get the Devs to remove all the crapware they insist we need & give us back our “basic/normal” A/V program.
That’s all we need.

Do a custom install.

Sounds good, you’re welcome Mike.

@ Bob,
Thanks for that hint but I always do use the CUSTOM Install with any new program that offers it.
I also create a “Restore Point” beforehand.

Thanks again, Asyn.
