Removed Norton and added Avast Free to a new PC when the Norton free trial expired. Avast seems to be working fine with the exception of automatic updates. I can manually update, but it is not doing so automatically even though I have the settings checked to do so. Any Ideas why or how it can be fixed? Many Thanks.
did you run Norton removal tool and reboot http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
Did you run the Norton removal tool after uninstalling to remove remnants http://www.avast.com/en-gb/faq.php?article=AVKB11
Then you could try a repair of avast via Programs and Features - click to uninstall avast then choose repair and reboot when completed.

Yes I did run the Norton removal tool and did the repair as suggested. I had updated the definitions prior to posting, so it is up to date. Will need to see if it updates automatically now. If not, any other suggestions?
See how it goes for now and if it doesn’t work properly the next step is a clean install.
Are you sure it isn’t updating? check settings/update and last update received which will show the last streaming update time, mine was two minutes ago.
I had manually updated prior to posting and is showing my current version as 14312-0. Tried another manual update and showing as current.
That is your normal programs updates, below that is last update received which will show streaming update times that should be coming in every 4 to 10 minutes
You can also check this address for information on last streaming updates received C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\defs
It appears to be working now. It appears the repair and reboot did the trick.
