I am running avast free 11.2.2262 on win xp pro sp3. It is configured to automatically update signature every 4 hours and to run a full scan every day. Virus definition 160810-4.
For the past 2 days the scan ‘hangs’ about 3/4 of the way through. The only thing I can do is force a reboot.
Tried drilling down from C:\Documents and Settings\mike alt…\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast and C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast - didn’t find anything other than C:\Documents and Settings\mike alt…\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log
The suggested technique doesn’t work as the folder doesn’t exist in my installation - looks like I need to completely remove Avast free and install again from scratch.
Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204
If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast: https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf
Which folder are you missing ???
There seems to be some confusion - the folder ‘programdata’ does exist in XP but it has nothing to do with Avast see programdata.JPG.
My results and observations;
I chose to download the offline installer - over 200 meg. Should have info to compute checksum to ensure file is complete.
After removing Avast through control panel , booting into safe mode, running avastclear.exe, reboot, the windows security center still reported the presence of avast - see security-settings.JPG
Another suggestion; From the user interface, there should be access to the various log files
Of the 27 files in the log folder which is the scan log - I can’t tell - see log-folder.jpg.
In Win7 or later the ProgramData folder doesn’t have anything to do with avast or other programs, other than avast (and other programs) has a sub-folder in it where it stores log files, etc.
Unfortunately the log folder you are looking in doesn’t contain details about scans run. Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report folder for the file named according to the “scan name you ran.txt”
