Avast! Free only free for a year?

Hi forum. I saw a comment on the c-net download site about Avast! free, and I’m not sure if this commenter is correct. The commenter said that “Avast! free protection is only possible for one year, and after that one must pay a fee to renew”. Is this true? I’m only a new Avast! user but my understanding is that you have to re-register the product after a year, but I didn’t hear about having to pay to do so before I read this comment. I have a feeling this person is mistaken?

I’m extremely happy with Avast! so far, and may well at some stage upgrade to the premium version anyway, but I’d like to know if that comment is true so I can warn people I recommend Avast! free to if it is free only for a period of time.

The comment is page 2 of the comments by user “pqcheryl” (about half way down page) : http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3640-2239_4-10019223-2.html

Thanks.

No. That’s not true.

No is not correct. My avast expired last February and avast pop up and ask me to re-register 14 days before my license expire. I only re-register after 14 days.:stuck_out_tongue: So avast is free forever*.

*unless AVAST company decide otherwise.

Thanks Asyn and LunarWolf, and wow quick replies! Yeah I thought that sounded a bit strange, thanks for the clarification.

You’re welcome…!
