Avast Free - Pop up keeps telling me to activate and register Pro version

I’ve been using Avast free version for some considerable time now. In October my yearly subscription became renewable and I thought I had renewed (following the links) in the usual way. I now keep getting a pop up stating that I must activate my trial version of Avast Pro in ten days otherwise updates will not follow.

Unfortunately I am a bit technically challenged (to say the lease) and am now in total confusion. When I highlight the avast icon in the tray bar it states that my system is secure, but I am of course worried that this may not be the case. Then when I right click and go the user interface it states that I have not yet activated the Pro version.

My system is running Windows Vista (32bit) home edition.

Can anyone help me please? Thanks

  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
