avast! Free/Pro Version 7.0.1456 + FireFox 13.0 + Flash plug-in 11.3.300.265

:-\ Has anyone experiencing this problem with the behavioral shield found a solution or heard from tech support? I’m beginning to think that there may be an answer out there and I missed it. If not, I sure would like to know that someone from tech support is currently looking into this and could give the user community some kind of a status report. Right now, I have behavioral shield turned off because too many web pages use Flash for it to be disabled.

What problem you are speaking about?

Running avast! .1456 and Firefox 13.0.1 under Windows 7 SP1 x64 causes Firefox to hang when Behavioral Shield is enabled and Flash Plugin 11.3.300.265 is executed. Disabling either Behavioral Shield or the Flash plugin gets around the problem, but you lose the functionality of the disabled component.

The following is an excerpt from a post by “Orange123” in the Service Program Update 7.0.1456 forum. It contains quotes from a previous post of my own and another user named “Vik”. It corroborates my account of the problem…

:D THE HANG IN FIREFOX 13.1, WHEN RUN UNDER WINDOWS 7 SP1 x64, OCCURS AS A CONFLICT WITH SHOCKWAVE FLASH PLUGIN VERSION 11.3.300.262 WHEN IT IS ENABLED. I DON'T KNOW IF IT OCCURS WITH OTHER VERSIONS OF FLASH - THIS IS THE ONLY ONE I'VE USED SINCE MIGRATING TO FIREFOX. I HAVE DISABLED IT AND RE-ENABLED BEHAVIORAL SHIELD - EVERYTHING WORKS NOW! CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO WHAT MAY BE CAUSING THIS? (PERHAPS ONE MORE UPDATE TO .1457?).

(P.S. I AM RUNNING AVAST .1456 + FIREFOX 13.1 + FLASH PLUGIN 11.3.300.262 UNDER WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SP3 ON MY LAPTOP. THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM THERE, SO THIS CONFLICT IS PROBABLY RESTRICTED TO WINDOWS 7.)

I’m having the exact same problem with this new update 7.0.1456. I am also running the exact same progam versions. Runing Windows 7 64bit SP1, Flash Plugin 11.3.300.262, Firefox 13.1.

I don’t have any problems with Opera or IE9. Firefox 13.1 works browsing normal pages but any page using flash and the browser hangs making me use task manager to end the process.

Before I came across this post I did a clean reinstall of Avast and also a clean install of Flash neither resolved the issue.

So... anyone having the problem with Flash in Firefox, can you please confirm that the problem goes away when you stop the Behavior Shield in avast?

Thanks

I can confirm also disabling Behaviour Shield fixes the problem.

Is there a way to downgrade or download to the avast version before this update?

Sorry ts1sds but I have no problems with avast shields.

My configuration:
Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit; avast! Free 7.0.1456; Firefox 13.0.1; Flash plugin 11.3.300.265.

Did you read the text of the post? It states that the problem occurs on Windows 7 64-bit, not Windows Vista 32-bit. The text also states that the same combination of avast!, FF, and Flash works perfectly under Windows XP SP3. At your experience level, you should know that sometimes even a small difference in operating environment can amount to big differences in the way software functions. This problem is REAL!

I am not an English native speaker and may be you don’t understand me right. I told you “sorry” because I can’t help you.

The problem is between firefox 13.0.1 and flash player 11.3 plug-in (running sandboxed in firefox). This is a known problem, but it doesn’t happen in XP because firefox can’t sandbox flash player in XP.

If you have the latest Flash plugin 11.3.300.265, I believe that disables the auto sandboxing of the flash plug-in in firefox 13 for those OSes that would otherwise support running the flash plug-in sandboxed. So I don’t know if this currently only effects windows 7 and not Vista or XP. I don’t use Vista so I don’t know.

To George: I am truly sorry and I apologize for my “intonation”. So many attitudes have turned cynical in recent days that I sometimes misunderstand when someone is being honest.

To David R: No, I can affirm that the plug-in is not running sandboxed in this case, and the problem does seem to be restricted to Windows 7 - maybe even to the 64-bit version only. All I know is that I paid for avast! Professional and have tried to make use of direct tech support communication - and have received almost zero assistance. The last time I heard directly from a tech support rep was after I wrote a critical E-mail to their sales department - and that was two weeks ago.
