Avast free Right click scan not working

Ok so i am running avast free,

Prog ver: 2014.9.0.2013,
virus def: 140505-0
Win-7 home pre, service pack 1

when i do a complete scan everything works ok but when i right click on a folder or file and select scan, the avast scan box pops open, but the middle between the black borders, just remains white & nothing at all happens, i have left the window open all day scanning a folder with a text file inside, yet nothing.

the window does not freeze as i can click the minimise, close (X), or the Close button in the bottom right, it just doesnt seem to scan.

You’re running a quite outdated version of avast, I’d suggest updating to the latest 9.0.2018 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=149104.0
