I seem to have a fight going on between avast and email/internet ???
If I want to do stuff now I switch off avast. Seems pointless.
I am currently using Avast 5.0.507 and I must say that things have improved a lot but very often especially during a normal defrag or just crawling with the Microsoft utility to remove the malware slows down the system and not just because the process Avastu rises to 99% of CPU usage, for what it regards mail and internet I do not have problems at all
Maybe you should better specify what type of problem and when it presents itself because that is a bit too generic it!
that was not a very good description of your problem…
did you have any antivirus program before installing avast, what ?
have you removed it ?
have you run a removal tool for that program so all leftovers are gone ?

Did have Avast Pro installed. Used its uninstall.
Current free avast blocking access to mail servers, slowing programs hugely.
I have No Problem With It yet, Is You Have any other anti-virus installed on your PC with Avast it may Slow down your PC or try to stop startup applications may slow down PC.
