Hello, all. So, there seems to be an issue with Avast for me. I have version 2014.9.0.2011, and Avast has been telling me for some time now that there’s a new update available. Clicking the “Update” button does nothing, and setting it to update automatically never triggers an update, either.
The virus definitions continue to update without issue, so it’s not a connection issue. But I’m curious about how to fix this.
Well, following your instructions, I uninstalled Avast via control panel, then ran the removal tool, went into safe mode, then tried to select the install location, but it seems as though the uninstallation had already removed the folder in which Avast was installed. Checked both 32- and 64-bit folders since I wasn’t sure which Avast is. I wouldn’t have changed the default install location, and there were no Avast folders anywhere, so I just skipped that step since there was nothing I could point the removal tool to. Then rebooted, reinstalled, all seems to work. Ran definition/software update, both reported being up to date. We’ll see what happens next time there’s a software update, I guess.
