Avast Free - Unclosable Ads Blocking Screen & Foolish Performance Warnings

I’m using Avast Free 18.8.2356 on my XP VM.

Unclosable Ads Blocking Screen
I clicked on the Privacy Issues button and now I have a window that cannot be close trying to force me to purchase “Avast SecureLine VPN”.
There is no way to kill any of the multiple windows associated with this annoyance.
I’m forced to restart my VM to get rid of it.

This is exactly the way that malware behaves, ironic considering that this is supposed to be an Anti-Malware product.
What is wrong with you people?

Foolish Performance Warnings
The Performance Monitor complains that VMware Tools is slowing my computer.
This “computer” is an XP VM, so it needs VMware Tools.

It also complains about Process Explorer (superior Task Manager for Windows).
There appears to be no way to prevent the “helpful” Performance Monitor from complaining about these necessary programs.

Avast used to be a good program years ago, but now every update just makes it worse.

Here’s a novel idea, restore user control, instead of blindly following the Microsoft W10 paradigm of removing all user control.

Thank you.

A screenshot would have been helpful.
There’s always the X in the upper right corner to close the window.

Hi bob3160

Apparently I don’t get email notifications of replies.

My issue is that if you click on the button in the pop-up “screen” (not the close button) a series of “screens” appear which you can’t get out of.
I can only close the inital “screen”, if I click the “offer/info” button I get trapped.

The screens are related to the item shown in the pop-up (e.g. “Avast SecureLine VPN”, “Performance Issues”, etc.).

The easiest solution is to ignore any of the Avast pop-ups.

Use this option and see

When you use that option, you also block notifications that you might want to receive.
@lehnerus2000,
What were you doing when you received what you called an unclosable popup?
