I’ve searched for the issue I’m having but found no similar posts…if anyone knows about one, please post a link.
On one of the computers that I occasionally service, Avast 6.0.1367 free is installed. Recently the free license has expired, but I was not available to update it on the machine. When I finally got to it today, I noticed that somehow the license was “updated / renewed” but not by the usual 1 year, but with a 3 month license (it expired a couple of days ago and it is now licensed until April).
The computer user doesn’t remember doing anything about the license, other than clicking away the warning messages that it was about to expire. The question is, could it be that one of those warnings was actually an agreement to do an automatic license update and so it got extended ? What kind of a license is a free 3 month license ? Is there any way of checking whet happened ?
The main question thought is this: Is there anyway of replacing this short license with the usual 1 year license…the thing being that in 3 months time I’m not sure I’ll be able to service this particular computer again. I know I can uninstall and re-install avast completely, but that seems a bit unnecessary just to update a license.
Thank you kindly for the reply, but that was not what I was asking. I know avast well enough; have been using it for a couple of years and know the usual procedures regarding licensing and registration. If you read my post again the actual questions are regarding the 3 month license that is currently active on a computer and how to deal with it:
1.)Where can such a license come from ? (is there a log to see what happened, is there a pop-up that appears ad the user could have simply accepted to get a new license, or can avast automatically renew a license without intervention when it actually expires)
2.)What kind of a license is this 3 month license ?
3.)Is there any way of just replacing this “short” license with a normal free 1 year license (which was already obtained but cannot be entered since avast doesn’t offer this, as the 3 month license is brand new)
PS: version of avast was just to describe the system; when it was installed a year or so ago it was the newest version. Of course it will be updated, but that’s besides the point.
