Avast Free updated itself despite being set to "manual update"

As title says, my Avast Free AV (just AV, without Avast Firewall) this morning updated automatically from 25.1 to 25.2 despite automatic updates being turned off.
This happened also in the past years, now and then, with no apparent reason.
Which is quite annoying, especially if you want to be very careful with updates to critical system components.

Anyone knowing why?

I use Avast Free and program settings are set to Manual and I didn’t get 25.2 until I manually updated it.

Thanks for your answer.

I’m not surprised that it hasn’t happened to you.
As I said, it has only happened to me a few times, for no apparent reason, even though I’ve always kept automatic updates disabled.
And other users (as far as I know) have reported the same thing from time to time, without receiving any comprehensive information about it.

I’d just like to understand why it happens and how I can (IF it’s possible) prevent it from happening. And it seems really unlikely that developers don’t know the answer. Also because it would be quite sad to imagine that those who design a software don’t know how to explain the behaviour of the software itself.

There are occasions when a bug fix might get released under the Emergency Updates function, but ordinarily that would be related to the version you have installed.

That said, I don’t think that would be the case here as I only got 25.2 when I initiated the Manual Update. So somewhat weird.

I’m not that impressed with 25.2 as essentially it has screwed up my Avast Firewall and Network Shield settings, constantly getting popups when the Network Shield scans new connections that should have been already catered for with my Firewall and Network Shield settings.
