Avast Free V17

Updated Avast V12 to V17 (automatic update). After reboot got error-message 0xC0000005 “kan toepassing niet correct starten” on most of the programs the system tried to start in the boot. This means I’ve got an unworkable system.
Does this ring any bells anywhere?

Perform a clean installation of the latest avast version with the off-line installer.

Did the installation as follows:

1-Remove Avast Free Antivirus using Windows remove program option
2-Clean up using AvastClear
3-Run Avast Free Antivirus 17.3.2291 Build 17.3.3443.0 (avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline)

That could be the culprit.

Remove avast completely
Remove Comodo completely
See if you can install avast

I’ll give it a try, but that will take some time.
After having installed Avast (assuming no problems will occur), re-install Comodo firewall next?
Or are you suggesting to search for a different Firewall?

Thanks for your help, I’ll keep you informed, but as already said it might take a while.
One more question: i have noticed avastclear creates a kinda multiboot.
What happens when I run avastclear on a multiboot system? Will my existing multiboot-menu then overwritten, or just sort of “updated” with the AvastClear part?

It depends. If one or more are in a virtual machine, then the answer is “no”.
I have several VM’s and all I need to do is install avast in my host system.
I use my VM’s for testing various “other” software which may cause issues with my production/host machine.

Uninstalling Comodo is a pain in the ass, I failed getting it off my system totally. I tried to get rid off it by editing the registry, but apparently missed one or (most likely) more entries.
So I have to figure out how to solve this problem.
Maube I better wait till the Comodo-problems are solved, if ever.
