Just tried to clean install Avast 8.0.1483 on a Vista laptop (fresh install of Vista w/SP2, Avast)), Avast 8 slows this laptop to a crawl, registration freezes, won’t complete, I’ve tried twice, I’m done. I’ve uninstalled 8, installing the tried and trusted 7.0.1474. I’m still on 7.0.1474 on my main PC and my wife’s, I don’t think I’ll be upgrading anytime soon.
Well… The better will be an installation from scratch…
Any other security app that could be interfering with avast?
Clean install = “installation from scratch”. The only other AS applications on this PC are SpywareBlaster and Windows Defender. If we need to disable them in order to install Avast, that should be made apparent, but in all of the many instances where I’ve installed previous versions of Avast, I’ve never had an issue where those two needed to be disabled.
Since no additional replies to this seem to be forthcoming, I’d like to know how long you’ll be supporting Avast 7 until you can get the bugs worked out of 8? I’m not putting 8 on my (or my wife’s) XP machines (and risk fubar’ing the machines) until I start hearing good things about this new version of Avast. From my own first experience, from the other people in here bitching about this new version, and from my own dislike of the new interface, I’m reluctant to upgrade to 8 until the install issues get resolved. You say a clean install is preferred but the unwashed masses will expect a seamless upgrade because they’re not savvy enough to uninstall the old, clean up the remains, to install the new. Not to mention the fact that going through the whole uninstall/reinstall is a PITA I’d rather not have to do…and shouldn’t need to do.
So, how long will you support v7?
Hi i had the same problem on my wife’s laptop (Win 7 dual core 3 GB), it was running fine with avast 7 , but since v8.1483 slow boot start … big hog on her system. uninstalled several times with removal tool in safe mode and reinstall v8 … but nothing helps!
For now switched to panda cloud AV !
