Avast! Free Version 7 Virus Update Announces Twice.

When my virus definitions are updated, the Avast! voice over repeats itself two times. I have tried Add, Remove, Repair, then rebooting, but nothing has worked. Everything was fine until I upgraded to the new free version 7.

What is the problem? What you’re expecting that did not happen?

The same thing happens on my PC: two announcements saying that the virus database has been updated.

I don’t mind it happening if it is meant to, but it occurs to me that maybe:-

  1. … there are two update processes running which is wasteful of processing power? I did check in Task Manager and Process Explorer but all looks OK.
  2. … there are two separate databases stored somewhere, in which case there is scope for integrity issues?

Any advice or comments, please?

Have you tried the Avast Repair to see if this fixes your problem?

XP Users:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

Vista & Win7 Users:

  • Control Panel
  • Programs & Features
  • Uninstall a Program > Select Avast Antivirus
  • Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair
  • Click Next and follow.
  • Reboot.

Just started happening for me too since updating to 7.0.1456. Don’t want to “fix it if it ain’t broke” (ie using repair facility as suggested) so some indication from on high that it is an indication of a problem (rather than an inconsequential glitch) would be gratefully received.

Have this issue in windows xp. Is ok on previous older version of avast before this new one. Reported this issue in a post before on Green popup box.

(AVAST VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED. SOUNDING TWICE)

Still using new version if it is getting annoying just disable avast sounds and you will just see popup boxes if anything is discovered with no sound.
