avast free with mozilla thunderbird 2.0

I am using the free avast home 4.7.1001 with Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0. Everything works OK but when I try to read messages in Thunderbird it takes a very long time to go from one message to the next on reading or deleting or marking messages as junk. Should I change some settings or is this normal? It used to be much faster before installing Avast.

This is a not uncommon occurrence in Thunderbird and one explained by - alanrf - Thunderbird and slow receipt of email, etc. see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23424.msg194826#msg194826 although this is in a Beta Topic it is unrelated to a beta but Thunderbird in general.

The only way to really delete mail messages in Thunderbird and to get control of the space it is using is to regularly compact the folders. (If you check the Thunderbird support forums you will find the folks there giving this advice to many of the problem reports).

It is also not a good idea to keep all you mail messages in the Inbox, if you have a lot there consider moving them to another folder.

thanks

Your welcome, but more importantly did it work ?

Hi, I have had the same problem for some days now and didn’t have them before and I was using avast and thunderbird together for “years” now without problems. I then remembered that I put on-access protection on “high” last week… After putting it back to normal changing the status of mails or marking them as unread or spam etc. worked smoothly again. Maybe you have the same configuration…

Christina
