Avast Free Won't Auto Update

So I’ve noticed quite a few posts saying that avast won’t update, but I can manually update mine without a hitch. What I can’t do is get it to auto update. I have checked my system date/time. I don’t want to have to manually update avast all the time, I’m a bit forgetful ;D

EDIT: Auto update is enabled. I have also tried it with proxy enabled (retrieve settings from IE) and disabled (direct connection), as well as with permanent connection enabled and disabled. I did some looking through logs and what not, so far as I can tell it’s not even trying to update. There are no errors and no indications that an update was ever started.

Double Edit: The last auto update was on 17.06.2010 at 20:09:21 and there were no errors reported. After that it just stopped trying to auto update.

  1. Please tell me what version of Avast you are using? 5.0.594 is the latest version.
  2. Do you have any other security software (FW, etc.) on your machine?
  3. How do you normally connect to the Internet? Broadband/cable, proxy, DSL, etc.
