My program has stopped updating. It goes to the update page then does nothing. I am registered & have a half a year left. Please give me some suggestions as I’ve never had a problem with this program. Thanks!!
try avast repair
controlpanel > ad remove programs > avast > uninstall > repair option…wait a minute or two and reboot
any change?.. if not check avast update settings…try direct connection no proxy… any change?
No information about the license expiration?
I have the same problem. When I try to uninstall I get
Error reading product data from "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup". Setup cannot continue.
Not sure why you asked this question, if it is for the OP, he has already stated “I am registered & have a half a year left.”
Did it expand any further on that setup cannot continue ?
The suggested Repair above probably won’t work either as that too uses avast.setup.
But a Manual update of VPS might resolve the fault - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 78.4 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update. The one you want is the one for avast versions 5/6/7 it is the same for 8.
If this doesn’t resolve it, you are looking at a reinstall.
When I tried that manual download I got the same message. How can I reinstall when I cannot uninstall first?
Looks like the corruption is more widespread - For a clean reinstall:
-
Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1483 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
-
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).
-
- Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
