I have had Avast for a very long time and am delighted with it.
My OS is Windows 10 version 20H2 and up-to-date. My PC is an HP All-In-One - 22-c0009na desktop just over 2 years old.
It is clean and has no problems.
But Avast takes a long time to load from shutdown or restart. It loads last program and takes about 2 minutes plus.
Is this normal ? Is there anything I can do to speed up loading ?
What is your indication (source) that Avast is slow to start ?
If you are basing it on when you see the avast tray icon, then that is somewhat false as the UI (tray icon) loads much later than the system drivers.
I don’t see any noticeable slowness even seeing the avast tray icon, my win10 system is on 21H1 which is now the latest version (but necessarily auto installation). My system is a laptop, so I don’t shut it down every day only when required.
Check your applications that do load on start up as many want (but don’t really need) to start on boot, media programs being a case in point.
Thank you - my time judgement is from when my desktop screen comes up to when the Avast icon appears.
I will only update to 21H1 when MS offers it on the Windows update and even then I will let it be on the shelf for at least one month, probably more.
Yes the tray icon does take a little time to appear it is essentially only the UI interface, the main services load very early in the windows boot (though I don’t have any exact figures).
With my Windows Update settings, I have it fairly strict on a laptop and possibly being on battery at the time, I have set my working hours, plus options, etc. so it shouldn’t automatically download/install and boot. I do on occasion get Notifications about an update. But I also periodically check for updates, those who do that are likely to be offered the 21H1 update sooner (provided their system is ‘ready’ for it).
It was offered to me, I accepted is and the download and installation was very quick, quicker than any previous feature update so far. About 4-5 minutes to download, initialise, install, restart and finalise. Though some have found it to take much, much longer.
