Avast freeze Acer 5613ZWLMi

I have a 2 year old Acer Aspire 5613ZWLMi/2G RAM delivered with Vista. I had a company to change OS to XP. I use Firefox instead of Explorer. Earlier I used Norton 360, but have now changed to AVAST! home edition. When I try to delete something using the DEL button the Laptop freeze. When I shut down the Laptop with the ON/OF button a “closing Explorer” message pop up. I have tried to close AVAST! and then everything works fine. I have used Ccleaner and Check It Registry Cleaner. I also used regedit and delted all Norton/Symantec traces. Just one thing seem to be impossible to delete, something called Symantec Lic Net Connect Service in my Legacy Genealogy Software. I really want to keep AVAST!, but if I cannot make it work I have to uninstall it. Is there anyone out there with a suggestion what to do?

Absolutely!
This is a frequent problem when a Norton (and some other) product has been installed.
Try the Norton Removal Tool.
Removing it via “add/remove programs” is sometimes not enough, even if the reg entries were deleted. There are likely to be files still present.

Tried the Removal Tool. Still the same. Since the explorer warning pops up, is that the problem? Do I have to find another virus software? :o

[font=Segoe UI] Hi Berit and welcome to the forums,

Did you happen to still have a Norton Protected Recycle Bin since clicking DEL button cause some inconsistency? What is your previous Norton 360 version?

I have deleted everything with the name Norton and Symantec on C: (I only have one disc without partition). I have again used regedit and now there is a Symantec Eraser Control Driver in Legacy, I have used Ccleaner and Registry cleaner, but nothing seems to work. I cannot remember which 360 I had, but it was bought late 2007.

What happens if you try and manually delete the reference to the legacy driver?
Are there any pointers in that reg entry as to what the file (and where) might be called?

The Symantec file in the register is impossible to delete. I get a red cross. I have now uninstalled and deleted Explorer. There is still one file on C: I am denied to delete. It seems to be a rest of Explorer 6. I think I have to find another antivirus software.

I don’t know what you mean: “I have now uninstalled and deleted explorer.” (What explorer? from where?)
and “There is still one file on C: I am denied to delete. It seems to be a rest of Explorer 6”
You can’t uninstall Internet Explorer; it’s part of the Operating System.

Any error message/dialogue when trying to delete that Symantec registry entry?
This sort of thing can usually be removed if the permissions are changed.
What was the entry, please, list it verbatim, or, better yet, post a screenshot.

Thanks for all help. I have not the skill nor the time to solve this so I have found a solution that works for now.

Ok, if you want to find the time (sometime) there are certainly people here that can help you with the skill.
Welcome back any time; if you do you might want to re-open this thread, or a new one with a link to this thread.
