i was using avast before for almost 1 and half year but then suddenly it keeps freezing my PC on start up. i’m suspecting it’s the auto update. it happens during the first start up of my PC of the day. after restarting, it doesn’t freeze anymore. i got pissed off restarting my PC so i downloaded other AV program for almost half a year. i was happy with it. but today i thought of using avast again because i really love it. but guess what? after first auto update…PC freeze! i have to restart again -_-

windows XP proff edition SP2
athlon AMD X2 dual 2.41 ghZ
2GB RAM
Geforce 8600GT
i like avast but i guess there’s no chance of using it again. :((

i am using IOBIT tools, super anti spyware - all of these i use as on demand scanning only
firewall- COMODO firewall - any known conflicts?
AV i use after uninstalling avast - avira (no problem, its just that it’s really slow to scan and poor GUI)
i wanna use avast :(( i tried putting it in comodo exclusions. also i tried disabling all the monitoring features but then it still freezes during start up. i can’t move my cursor, sometimes the freeze last for 20min. sometimes it doesn’t. i just have to reboot my PC.
You should run the respective removal utilities for all security software you EVER HAD, including each and every version and edition of Avast, Avira, IObit…
A partial list of specific removal utilities can be found at http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/. Better yet, run them under Windows Safe Mode and reboot into Safe Mode again in between each run.
