At first, I thought after changing some things on my router that it was the the router itself that was the was the issue, so I decided to check out what’s going on in safe mode with networking. The internet worked fine, so I decided to update the malware softwares and antiviruses I could, and scan the laptop to see what the problem was. When I went to update Avast through the add/remove programs window, it would update but stop at jrog-9b.vpx and it would not go any further. Then my laptop would freeze. Since I can’t turn off avast on regular Windows, I uninstalled it again so i can run things normally.
I really like avast, and I’ve had it for months, but the problem I had Sunday and now today just seems weird to me. I’m thinking about maybe getting another antivirus, or even waiting until the issue with avast is resvoled. But my question is what is the issue with the update that froze my laptop?
Weee no!
I’m sorry I did a reply to the wrong topic. I don’t know why. I’m sorry for confusing.
But basically I wish threat starters would post what program version or type they are talking about.
I mean the main title is avast! Free/Pro/Suite right?
Some TS are talking about the avast! Pro Antivirus others about avast! Free Antivirus and some about avast! IS. It’s driving me nuts not to know what type they mean. ???
I was using the lastest Avast build 5.0.462 and I was using it since it was release without any issue until recently (see my other post where avast just stopped working on me). I was only updating through safe mode because I could not understand why my laptop was freezing the moment I connected to the internet (I always start up the laptop without an internet connection, then connect whenever I want to). I wanted to update all the anti-malware and antiviruses I had in safe mode and run them. That’s when I found out avast was freezing my computer. When I got around to update Avast, my computer just stopped when it got ot the point I described before. When I was on the internet in safe mode, it wasn’t freezing, but in regular mode it was. And I’ve only downloaded Avast from this site, and any updates ran automactially when I was online and Avast would tell me when it did, and would ask me to reset if necessary.
On another note it may be my laptop for some odd reason. I installed Avast on my PC because I liked how it worked on my laptop. Updated to the lastest version and virus database (Though for a week it did have a problem updating the database). My laptop is a Toshiba running Windows XP Media Center Edition SP3 WIth Intel Centrino at 1.86Ghz with 1.48GB of RAM. My PC is a Dell with Windows XP Home Edition SP3 with Pentium 4 @ 2.20 GHz and 256 MB of RAM.
@teh_rick: It happens sometime. It happened with me and it may have happened with many. But keep yourself cool, follow whatever Asyn suggested. Uninstall current version of Avast, reboot and install the latest version and see what happens… Let us know after that…
