Avast Grime Fighter vs. other pc cleaning tools.

Good morning folks 8),

Just a question that popped into my head. Is GrimeFighter any different from many other pc cleaning tools such as Advanced System Care, Revo uninstaller, and CCleaner.

In the past i used those programs to clean up my laptop from junk files and etc unwanted files and at the end my home laptop started to act abnormally, restart randomly at random times (system error at boot), and etc. So i had to re-format my laptop to fix those issues.

So from there I started to avoid those programs for cleaning up my pc? Will GrimeFighter be any different? I really hope 2014.9.0.2009 final version doesn’t have GrimeFighter pre-installed and only available as a standalone/custom installation?

Good evening (here)

There is a lot of discussion on Grimefighter in the Beta forum - http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=141747.0. From what I understand it will be a separate part/opt in or out of part of the new version. If you read through that thread this has been confirmed by Vlk.

At the moment it is something I don’t want to have installed, although we will see as the betas/RCs progress.

BTW: Advanced System care is at least 50% bloat and uses stolen intellectual property (IObit has stolen MBAM’s malware detection algorithm). I wouldn’t recommend it.

Yes, I am fully aware of that since it was disclosed. I just want to get my question answered.

I have no idea about grimefighter other than what Rohugh already answered. I’m in it the same: not something I currently want to use (if ever).

That was certain signature databases.
I fail to see how this has anything to do with the advanced system care program.?

Does system care incorporate some sort of anti-malware engine.
I have never used their products as i dont need them.

The only “credible” one: CCleaner
Also, absolutely the ONLY registry cleaner I would trust on my PCs.
Been doing this ALONG time and as stated above…most of these other programs cause more problems than help.

I use CCleaner for the easy part of cleaning up things.
The rest of the cleaning I do manually since over the years I never have found any tool that does it as thorough as I do.

It is a fact that all those “cleaning tools” in fact do less than you can do manually.
They only make some things easier/faster for the user.

+1

Am and I know all Avast users are hoping the make Grime Fighter either a standalone download/custom installation in the next Avast version.

Is IObit Driver booster any good? I installed it and only updated one driver for my Intel drivers. It got installed, but I feared it would do harm, give random BSOD, or etc. So i decided to bring up the previous version of my intel drivers via IObit driver booster GUI by system restore so it will bring back my old Intel driver version. Then IObit driver booster bought back my old Intel driver version and I then restarted my laptop. I then checked again to see if it would detect a new version of the Intel that I decided to reverse into the old driver and again it detected that my Intel drivers are out-of-date. After that I uinstalled IOBit driver booster.

So am i safe from my laptop doing random things i.e. BSOD and etc, because I already did a system restore point for that Intel driver by making IOBit driver booster bring back up the old version of the Intel driver version

I wouldn’t use anything other than CCleaner. Maybe it cleans the least but for a good reason. Have been using it for years and it never ever caused a problem because of its usage. All other tools eventually cleaned something more than they should and they wrecked the system instead of fixing it. Not so with CCleaner.

So am i safe from my laptop doing random things i.e. BSOD and etc, because I already did a system restore point for that Intel driver by making IOBit driver booster bring back up the old version of the Intel driver version?

Yes/No

I believe you are safe.I am also using Driver Booster without any problems.

Oh thanks for the confirmation! Oh really, how long you have been using it for?

Since first or second beta version.I don’t remember.

Driver Booster and other junkware products like it are pure rubbish and will lead to issues eventually. There is absolutely no need to update drivers on a regular basis unless the drivers are causing noticeable problems.

Yeah I agree on you with that? Once the Intel drivers got updated, i immediately reversed the operation via Driver Booster to do a system restore only for the Intel driver to uninstall the new driver that got updated and re-install the old version of the Intel driver. That way, I know my laptop will not cause unnecessary issues i.e. BSOD and etc

Driver Booster is cr*p, DevID does work kinda okay. Still caution is necessary when such a tool wants to replace/update drivers that are brand and/or specific for a certain product series (i.e. intel hd graphic drivers that are Acer laptop specific) with the default drivers from the device manufacturer.
