Avast GUI crashes - ashdisp.exe error caused by ashuint.dll

On a PC with Windows XP I installed 3 months ago Avast Professional installed.
Now, Avast Antivirus is no longer able to start the GUI interface, without crashing.

The error I get is (translated from Italian language):
The Application that caused an error is ashdisp.exe, version 4.7.997.0, the module that caused an error is ashuint.dll, versione 4.7.997.0, error 0x00005972.

What can I do?

Please try updating to the latest version of avast (4.7.1098).
