I had a popup explaining all the benefits of the fee based version of Avast. I only want to stay with the free version. When I go to the GUI and click on program upgrade it downloads and installs but keeps me on 4.8.
Why doesn’t the program update you to the latest version. If I manually download 5 free will it automatically upgrade 4.8 or does it need uninstalling?
You don’t have to go for a paid avast option if you don’t want to you can stay with avast free version 5.0.
However, you cant get it from the avast 4.8 GUI as it is completely different and can’t be installed/updated through the 4.8 program update function. So when you check for updates it is checking through the 4.8 update stream and you have the latest version.
You can run the avast free 5.0 installation file, that will retain what is left of your current registration information, uninstalls 4.8 and installs avast 5.0.677 in one action.
