I’m working on a PC game, which is currently unreleased, but available on Steam with a download code.
We’ve had a player for whom Avast complains about the game, and prevents it from running when it’s started up.
They’ve narrowed it down to the setting ‘scan for outdated software’ - if they untick that, Avast allows the game to run fine.
Could one of the engineering team let me know what the underlying reason for Avast deciding that our unreleased game is ‘outdated software’, and what we can do to resolve the issue?
I find that VERY unlikely situation since that most likely wasn’t actually what avast! was saying.
Either your game is Java based and avast! warned user about old version of Java or it was actually a CyberCapture warning which gets triggered on things that are so brand new (never observed by avast! lab before) that avast! blocks it and sends the file for analysis to the virus lab.
I make my own programs as well and that’s what users always experience when I release something new. Only way to avoid that is to have binaries signed by digital signature and contact avast! team to whitelist your digital signature if you regularly release new versions.
I agree with RejZoR.
as the game isn’t even released, avast doesn’t know about it.
It can only check for known applications that are in the database if there is a update for it or not.
