AVAST has deleted my system driver files along with the Trojans! Please HELP!!

Hi, I have a Windows PC with XP installed on it. I had a Rootkit Trojan infection in one of my Win 32/System/Driver files. And my AVG software was detecting it but as I was not a power user, it was doing nothing about it. So, I downloaded the latest version of AVAST PRO from CNET and I ran it. …Then a blue screen came and detected the rootkit Trojan and gave me a list of options like this:

  1. Delete,
  2. Delete All,
  3. Put in vault (or something like that!)
  4. something something…
  5. " "
  6. " "
  7. Repair,
  8. Repair all,
  9. Ignore, etc…

So, I thought it would be better to delete all the Trojans on my comp, so I hit “2”…then it deleted something really fast, and then I restarted the comp. After restarting the comp, though the Trojan was gone, but my Network Adapters could not be detected, my LAN could not be detected, my system resources keep getting slower and slower and in a few minutes the virtual memory becomes zero, and everything freezes and my comp crashes.

So, I am not able to diagnose anything, except after it boots, you know the “press F1 key” etc. for any changes. And since I am not a genius and don’t want to screw anything more in my comp, I’m not fingering with the “press F1 key” etc mode.

So, if anyone out there can help me with this, then please HELP!!

Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

Delete All is compounding the above.

Whilst this detection in the drivers folder is common of rootkit infections and is likely to be good, it is always wise not to delete as a first action.

What files were detected on the boot-time scan ?
Check the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report\aswBoot.txt using notepad and copy and paste the list of the files detected.

You have to do this before your next boot or that file will be overwritten.
