Avast has detected a secure connection from your mail program (Error)

Getting this error:

Found the article:
http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=458
Which describes how to solve the problem.

My question is:
Ok - so I disable SSL inside MS Outlook. Please verify and explain - HOW does this allow Outlook to send via unsecured ports AND somehow maintain a SSL connection? Does Avast intercept the POP3 unsecured sent message, and retransmit it via SSL?
I would like more information than just “The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself.”
There seriously needs to be more information in the pop-up message explaining HOW Avast will send it securely when Outlook is disabled.

Thanks, Todd

Avast handles/initiates the STARTTLS for the secure connection to log on and send/receive email.

You can monitor your firewall logs to see what is done.

As you can see from the image in the link you gave that for your accounts avasts SSL Accounts settings will use X protocol and Y port and what Encryption it will use when making connections to these accounts.
