Anyone any idea how I can make Avast run on start up?
A laptop of the daughter of a colleague was laden with viruses and trojans. I have done a very deep clean and have dl’d Avast for her. However, whether it is due to my having to disable Avast on a few ocassions whilst cleaning I don’t know but now it won’t start automatically on start up.
I’m sure it is me missing something simple but just can’t get it.
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

also recomended.... Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.org
Yep re Malwarebytes. Use it myself. Had to use that and many others to clean this beast!
She let Norton IS 2006 run out and hadn’t updated for a while.
First thing to do is ensure that your daughter has uninstalled Norton completely as that in itself has proven to be as hard as some viruses to completely remove ;D
A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs: Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
After having run that, if the avast repair doesn’t resolve it, you will have to reinstall avast (uninstall, reboot, install).
I have already used the Norton unistall tool and even that left some remnants behind!
The big clean got rid of the rest though.
The clean was very thorough and I’m pretty sure all is okay now however the leptop is V…e…r…y slow so am now attempting to close start up progs and unclutter HD (60Gb). Lots of music and pics.
