Avast high CPU usage while steam is updating in the background

So I have been facing this issue for a while, and to my knowledge many people does. My problem is that whenever the steam client updates anything in the background there is a very high CPU usage with Avast(Screenshot provided). I have added the whole steam folder to the exclusion list, and also allowed the app. It doesn’t matter what I do, it just doesn’t give a ****. When I turn off Avast then everything is working fine, so it is confirmed that Avast is the problem here. I have also contacted Avast Tech support, I was chatting with them, and they even connected to my pc. But it’s still not fixed. Can anyone provide me any information how to fix this issue? Thank you so much!

I did it, thank you

Done. Thank you

  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I do not have anything else installed.
I had Kaspersky before this.
I also encounter this problem with Avast on a clean windows install. I don’t think it has something to do with other security products.

Hi, if you’re willing to help, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=237567.0

You could try the following to see if it makes a difference,
Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting >
Uncheck Enable Hardware-assisted virtualization
If it helps great, if not just change it back.
