I’m using a desktop hp pavilion516 running windows xp pro i read it FAQ asked questions that some files cant be accessed an i understand some files are locked ,this PC came with xp home an i wiped an reinstalled xp pro on it in September, because of missing files when i run a Scan none of my files are accessesable , my doc, my computer any of them , today i spent 4hrs reformatting in hopes of fixing it but to no avail, i cant get anything else to scan them either avg, housecalls anyhelp would be greatly welcomed, should i not worry about them ,i know it had allot of viruses on it before thats why i did a clean install the first time
Welcome to the forum.
It would help if you can give us the full error message you encounter.
none it runs normal like its scanning an when the log comes up they are all marked as unacessable
Does AVG and avast are installed at the same time?
Are you talking about AVG antispyware or antivirus?
no there not installed at the same time i had avg anti-virus to start an when i wiped an formated the first time it done this so i dumped avg anti virus, an switched to avast an its doing the same thing so i reformatted ,several times as recommended an,its still doing it . xp home it had no trouble scanning files , is there something in XP PRO , that is stopping it? or is it something major bad Ive try ed going in to file options an unchecking hide system files that didn’t work, so I’m at a loss. all i need to know is are the files that cant be accessed safe or not, ?
No, both XP Pro or Home have support for avast.
Only changing the files visualization won’t mess anything…
Right now, what problem do you have?
avast in scan log says unable to access any of my files my docm, my computer my temp files any of my programs software such as adaware se or spybot sd ,ymess, windows live anything just shows the files an there marked un accessable, anything. it runs normal scan just dosnt scan then like they are locked or something
Strange…
Difficult to say.
Some files here are legit password protected ones. These software use password to protect their signatures, backups and skins.
should i worrie about this ,i didnt get prompted to password protect them when ive reformatted, i remember something about encriptions , could that be it?when I go to my computer it dont show them locked or anything
No, no worry. These files are autoprotected by the program themselves. You don’t add a password, they’re passworded internally by the own program.
thanks for the imformation i was all but ready to go an buy a new hard drive ,no one could tell me anything only to reformate
