Avast Home 4.8.1201 and n-computing 4.03.094

Hi Everyone

I’m using Avast Home on my Windows 2000 Pro since quite some time. A while back I bought an L200 from NComputing (http://www.ncomputing.com/) which enables me to have only one PC at home and me and my wife can work simultaneously on it just requiring a second keyboard/mouse/screen.

This worked all very well until I installed the latest Avast update a few days ago. After the required reboot, the scanners did not start any more and I have a few error messages in the event log as follows. This is after clearing the Antivirus log before booting:
[001] avast!
Type: ERROR
Time: 11.07.2008 10:10:46 ID: 90
AAVM - scanning error: SP_DriverListenThread: DeviceIoControl [IOCTL_ASWSP_START_REQUEST_AND_SET_RESULTS/1] failed, 00000032.

[002] avast!
Type: ERROR
Time: 11.07.2008 10:10:51 ID: 90
Storage query “C:\Programme\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\Avast4.db” failed. Error description: “CREATE DATABASE failed (14) [14]”.

The second message gets repeated 8 times.

If I then disable the software NCT-2000-XP required for the L200 hardware and reboot, Avast comes up cleanly. Re-enabling the software, reboot, and the same problem as before.
The interesting thing is, that I did not have that problem before the latest Avast update.

Any idea on what I should do about it? Removing the NCT software is not an option as my wife wants to work on the computer as well and running it without AV isn’t really what I’d like.

Windows 2000 has not been supported by Microsoft in quite a few years.

The last update was in 2003 which is like the age of the Dinosaurs in operating system years:

There’s a known conflict between the current version of avast! and nComputing (though on newer OSes it has worse consequences). It’s being worked on, hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Hello igor

I’ve just installed the new versin, 4.8.1227, it looks like it’s working again, after restart and re-enable of the nComputing software, the Avast scanner did start. Great!

Thanks for the Info and Update!
