This has probably been asked quite a lot, and i have read the posts concerning e-mails, BUT i cannot get avast to scan my e-mails (Thunderbird).
I tried to setup the scan manually, i.e. setting the servers (pop3) (smtp) to 127.0.0.1 and putting this in the username boxes. "username#my isps pop3 and username#my isps smtp settings.
but when i go to get mail i get a connection refused error. i have set the settings in the on-access protection control to scan both pop and smtp and to insert notes.
I have just swapped from AVG to Avast, So i thought that the e-mail part of the Ant-Virus would be the same or very close to it.
As an afterthought to my post above, after read a few posts on e-mail a lot of replies say to use the e-mail wizard at "start/programs/avast/ but i dont have a wizard installed, (well i cant find one ;D)
using Avast 4 home build jul2005 (4.6.691)
Xtreme toolkit Ver 1.9.4.0
VPS file 0543-0
WinXP pro
Thunderbird
Firefox
Opera 8.0
outlook express
Mail Protection Wizard is not for WinXP, it’s only for Win95,98 and ME, that’s way you don’t have it
In WinXP you don’t have to do any special settings, for email clients. avast! 4.6 features a method of email protection that is very easy for the user - it works completely automatically.
So you don’t have to have any troubles in setting it.
What e-mail account do you use? ( for example gmail.com , hotmail.com … )
Do you use any SSL/TLS connection to get your e-mail ?
i just use Thunderbird and my isp’s standard e-mail (pop3) (smtp) Is there a way of checking if the e-mail is being scanned ? as i dont see the blue icon in the tray spinning when i recieve any e-mail. ( i reset the the e-mail settings back to default)
cheers
linuts
Edit: please ignore this post, The e-mail scanner is working, it was my stupidity, i had not reset the ports for my pop3 or smtp. :-[
Well as far as I know the “a” icon in the system tray won’t spin when the mails are scanned. There is special icon for e-mail scanning, which is shown everytime when avast! scans your mail. You can enable this tray icon from Resident Protection settings> Internet Mail > Advanced .
