avast home and vista trouble

Just got a vista machine. Have been using avast on xp for many years. Installed avast on vista and IE will not do anything. Tried updating avast and it fails to connect. Went and made sure that the windows firewall is off and all the same thing. Went into command line and pinged google and it worked. Turned off avast and IE works. Nortons was pre-installed on the machine and uninstalled it using Revo. Any ideas or help?

Thanks

Norton can be a pig to remove even after an uninstall there are frequently remnants that cause other security programs problems.

A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
Or ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

I agree. I had a tough time getting rid of all Norton components.

Use the Norton Removal Tool provided by Symantec themself, it does a pretty good job.

dear friend,Norton is very difficult to rtemove ,let me say it is not completly removed by even thier removal tool.

some services are common to diff symantec products they will remain on your system even after using removal tool.

Best approach that i have used is use thier removal tool and reboot then go to services (or start in safe mode) stop and disable the symantec services

search folders marks as norton or symantec in your drive and delete them.

Nortons serious interfrence with system is one reason I am trying avast these days
