Avast Home Blocks MS Outlook???

Hi,

Whenever I start Outlook and want to receive my emails, I need to de-activate Avast. Otherwhise Outlook won´t download the emails.
Does anybody has had a similar problem?

It is very anoying, as this way it wonñt protect the mails I get. I noticed it that it esepecially hangs when it needs to donwload files which come with the emails.

I use:

Outlook 2003
Spamihilator 0.9.9.38
Avast Home V4.7

many thx,

David

Welcome to the forum.

Please help us to help you a bit further.

Please advise us of the operating system you are using.

Please let us know … are you using the Outlook/Exchange provider for avast or are you using the Internet Mail provider?

Clue: you should be using the Outlook/Exchange provider.

Hi,
Sorry for the forgotten information.

I am using Windows Xp Professional (Spanish Version) (1GB mem, 160GB HD)

I havce different mails:

1 using a VPOP3 using a local server.
2 Directly conected to the servers of the company where we have our mailaccounts (mail.mydomain.com and SMTP.mydomain.com)

Then I have Spamihilator as a Spamfilter, which uses 127.0.0.1 as Mailserver (my own PC).
I noticed that when my webcam send me some pictures (each 20K big), it keeps scanning them and Spamihilator also tries to check then. When I then de-activate Avast, start Outlook again, it downloads the files with no problems…
I don´t want to give up Spamihilator, as it is a great anti-spam program, and it is free. Now if you know a program that does the same thing (also free) and which works 100% with Avast, please tell me. I am willing to change it as I don´t want to change Avast.

Sorry to persist … but please let us know if you are using the Outlook/Exchange provider of avast.

I will not recommend that you stop using your spam filter … I am convinced it is a fine product.

Sorry,

No, I am not using that.
Should I?

Let’s try to be clear.

You are using Microsoft Outlook and not Outlook Express … is that right?

If your answer is yes then the recommended solution in avast is to use the Outlook/Exchange provider to scan your email.

Yes it is Oulook, not Outlook express.

Ok, how do I do that t han?

Thx

Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2002 > Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
