AVAST Home cannot scan PE_VIRUX.K & PE_VIRUX-.J-1 aka Virut

Having problem with Avast Home Edition.Already update to latest definition but cannot scan the PE_VIRUX.K &
PE_VIRUX-J1 (from Trend Micro Worry free 5.1 version).

I am Avast supporter but dissapointed that avast cannot scan. tried at Trend Micro can scan but cannot clean, only qurantine. Pls advice

the detection of new virut (Win32:Vitro) will be updated soon (probably today)…

Thanks for fast reply, Hope latest can scan and clean & repair…not quarantine

the repair function is not implemented for Win32:Vitro… try DrWeb CureIt (but there’s no guarantee to get it all back)…

Hmm latest definition i see also dun have Win32.Vitro. When it can able to scan ?

is your OS 32bit or 64bit? the update for 32bit virut was released yesterday, but the update for the 64bit version will come later…

Mine is 32bit XP pro.

Nvm. Update and try on infected pc, able to scan and delete.

Hm, since when these two differ? I though as far as scan engine is concerned, there are no changes between 32bit and 64bit. But now i see that 64bit seems to always lag behind :-\

it’s just the case of Virut (the only widespread virus, which has a 64bit variant and needs a special algorithmic detection)… as you probably know the x64 assembler is different from x86 assembler and that makes also the detection approach slightly different (maybe a bit harder to keep the track)… there’s already a detection of 64bit virut (Win64:Virtob), but it must be updated to cover the few newest variants…

In that case i understand it. I thought it’s just Win32 version of this virus.

maxx thanks for that interesting info bit :stuck_out_tongue:
