I have reinstalled Avast! Home in my laptop since I had to format it.
I’m having problems with the automatic update:
Avast! is only updating when I select that option on one of the menus.
There’s no firewall blocking Avast, and I’ve tried de-selecting the Automatic Update option in the Program Settings tab, restarting the computer, and re-selecting it and restarting… After that, the Automatic Update function is still not working…
If the servers.def file is corrupt or 0KB (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def).
You can try and download the servers.def file, http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def and replace the one in the avast setup folder.
If your subscription allows the update right now (i.e., if it is not expired).
Check your proxy settings into avast!:
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
Make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu).
If it doesn’t help, try switching the proxy settings from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).
I think the servers.def file should be OK otherwise Tulio wouldn’t be able to manually update either. I guess we will have to wait for Tulio to answer our previous questions.
My license is OK.
I´ve also switch those proxy settings. I left them now on Auto-detect.
I´m not getting errors on any Avast instance.
Sometimes I´m getting an RPC error on System Startup that I reported before, but I got a response explaning that there´s no solution for that matter.
Whatever reason that error shows up, after some seconds Avast continues to load correctly, so there shouldn´t be any problem with the updating. Don´t you think?
Unless that error corrupts the updating? I don´t think that´s what´s happening.
Well, if being completely wrong about that information makes you light-headed then yes.
Automatic updates most certainly can be and are used by those on avast Home edition.
Tulio
you mention seeing no avast errors messages. Have you looked in the avast setup log to see if there are any errors reported (at or near the end of the log)?
Same questions, what errors are you getting, please give the complete error or post a screenshot ?
When do the errors happen, directly after boot or for manual attempts also ?
What is your firewall ?
Check it is allowing avast.setup to connect.
I’m actually running Avast with Auto-detect setting in the Proxy checkbox, and it started working. If I have any other problem, don’t worry: I’ll be back. 8) ;D
