Avast Home Edition 4.8 download link error

Has anyone else had the same problem? I downloaded Avast Home Edition 4.8 from the Avast website yesterday and today, but after installation the resident protection won’t come on. Upon a little investigation I found out the version downloaded is wrong at the source! I think it downloaded the Pro version instead, even though I’m at the home edition download page.

From the Avast home edition download page at http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html, through link titled [avast! 4 Home - English version (length 28.06 MB)], I found out the version I downloaded is called “setupengpro”. Last week I also downloaded the home edition which worked fine on my other computer but back then the file was called “setupeng” not “setupengpro”.

When I installed Avast using “setupengpro”, the resident protection won’t come on. So I uninstalled that version and re-installed using the old “setupeng” file from last week, and it worked fine with the resident protection coming on successfully. However, when I then tried to do both iAVS Update and Program Update, the error message of “Invalid file signature. Setup will terminate” comes up. I think maybe it’s tried to download the Pro version for update and that’s why it doesn’t work.

Could somebody at Avast look into this and fix it up please?

The link on the page you mention points to “setupeng” (i.e. the English installer of avast! Home), not “setupengpro”… I’m really not sure how you ended up downloading that one.

Can you post the last page of \Setup\Setup.log (taken right after the unsuccesful update attempt)?

Okay I just checked the web link again… yes it seems to be downloading the correct version now.

I don’t know why the wrong version was downloaded yesterday and today. Could be my own mistake but I don’t recall ever clicking on the Pro page… :frowning:

Anyway, it’s all okay now. And my installed version of Avast has done both the iAVS Update and the Program Update correctly too.

Sorry about the fuss. Could you delete this topic all together when you finish reading.

Cheers
