I am using thunderbird portable version 2.0.0.21(20090302), win xp Pro sp2, comodo firewall 3.78.
I noticed that none of my email are being scanned for virus when they are in or out bound how do i set this up.
also I am using TLS 587 for outbound and 995 SSL for inbound, although I have now some trouble of acquiring my email through thunderbird, but can send. Anyway would like to know how to set up thunderbird emails to be scanned by avast. please respond thanks.
avast! can’t scan secure email currently and the new V5 avast! will be able to scan secure email.
You’re using Windows SP2 that has several security vunerablilities and Windows SP3 has been available for a year that has perfomance enhancements and several Critical Security Updates so in IE go to Tools then Windows Update then download and install all updates.
Go to Control Center then Security Center then set it to Automatic Updates (Recommended) or at least Notify me about updates but do not download nor install them.
Since SSL/TLS e-mail is encrypted and decrypted in the client, external virus scanners (including avast!) can’t read or scan it.
The solution is to pass e-mail in and out un-encrypted from your client (Outlook Express, Thunderbird, …) to a proxy program (Stunnel) that does the actual ssl or tls encryption/decryption of the pop3/smtp e-mail and communicates directly with the ISP server on the appropriate ports.
