Avast Home Edition - error during scan

Since update from version 4.8.1229 to version 4.8.1282 and installing Microsoft updates which were published 11 of November I cannot run hard disk scan. I’ve installed all updates from Microsoft 11.11.2008 and 12.11.2008 i updated Avast Home Edition. After Avast update I had to install one update from Microsoft.

After scanning about 20000 files program I get error message. I can only send or not report to Microsoft. I don’t know whats the problem. I’m sure that computer is free of viruses. Resident shield works fine, but every HDD scan ends with crash.

What is the problem? Update of avast or updates from Microsoft.
I have uninstalled Avast, rebooted PC, installed it again and problem still appears.
I use Windows XP Home Edition.

Hi…

While I don’t know why this has happened specifically, you can try performing a repair installation and then try manually updating avast. Just go to the Control Panel, click on “Add/Remove Programs,” and then avast. When the menu options appear on the left (in the window that appears after clicking on avast,) scroll down to the, I believe, last option, “Repair.”

If the problem isn’t solved after performing the repair, you can try uninstalling avast with this tool…

Then download and reinstall avast from scratch…

But you do not say of you used the avast uninstall tool as ardvark suggested. Did you?

Yes I used avast! uninstall utility, but it’ didnt help.
