avast home edition to task bar

Hello all, I’m new to avast and cant seem to get it to run in the taskbar. Whenever i close it down it closes the program completly. Sorry bout the noob question.

Start Avast en click on the “underscore” in the top right of Avast window.

that only minimises it, not put it in the taskbar to run permanantly in the background. Btw im using xp pro . thanks.

Don’t you see the blue ball next to the clock?
If not, check the process list to see if Avast is running or not.

Did you had another av on that system before Avast?
If so which one?

no theres no blue ball. its not running in the process list and this is the first antivirus on this operating system install. your help is appreciated btw

Try a repair of Avast.
control panel > add/remove programs > Avast > change > rapair.

theres no repair option. i went right through the change screens but no repair ??? Is this because its home edition not pro ? I only downloaded it today too. I might have to contact tech support.
thanks

Yes there is a repair function. It says there:
change, uninstall, update, repair.

It is in every version.

There should be a Repair Option, you may need to scroll down to see it.

Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to see the Repair option, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

You may have had a corrupt download or install. If you can’t repair, download the Avast Uninstall Utility, find it here and another copy of avast!

Uninstall using Add remove programs, reboot, run the Avast Uninstall Utility (to ensure any registry keys are cleaned up) reboot (again) and reinstall.

Fingers crossed.

Yes, there is repair funcion regardless of what version of avast! you use. Just follow Eddy’s and DavidR’s advices.

Contacting Tech support ? You just did it. Technical support through the forum is just a part of complete tech support package… once again, regardless of what version of avast! you are running.

Your problem - it sounds like corrupt avast! installation. Complet uninstall, reboot, reinstall or better call it, avast! clean install. See what happens after that.

Also, what else do you have installed on your system ? What security programs, firewall, antispyware and antiadware programs ? What’s already started on your system and runs in background every single time you start your system ?
