Avast Home freezes at 14% on scanning

greetings folks----long time avast believer & user on all of our home machines. a problem recently started on our vista machine where the scan consistently stops @ 14% on a file c:\programdata\wildtangent\oem-eula.exe$pluginsdif.

any suggestions? apparently this is somehow tied to an hp games package installed on the machine----i tried deleting all of the games via control panel, uninstall, etc… the files appeared to uninstall yet the 1st scan past this the scan froze again on the same file. not sure what’s up but would welcome an advice. thanks to all. bub

If during an avast! scan,

  1. avast! freezes or crashes, it’s probably avast! problem.
  2. The computer freezes or restarts, it could be e.g. a conflict with some other program, or a hardware problem.
  3. The computer powers down - it’s probably a hardware problem (e.g. overheating). The scan generates a lot of hard disk activity (and is also CPU intensive), which may increase the temperature of your hardware. I suggest to check the coolers in the case.
  4. If you get a blue screen, it could have a bug in avast! drivers (but then, there is not a power down).

Can you submit the file oem-eula.exe to virus@avast.com for analysis?

greetings tech…will do. thanks 4 the quick response. bub

You’re welcome. Be used to avast forum speed

i’m using the free edition & win7 home prem 64 bit & mine freezes at 12% if i do a “thorough” scan. quick & standard scans run fine, altho in the space where it should display last date scanned, has an incorrect date, but avs date is correct. any ideas?

What is the incorrect date ?
How are you checking this date as the act of checking it may well have change it ?

What is your firewall (as strange as this seems) ?
