avast home - get aavm rpc error in windows xp pro

I have installed avast home 4.8…once the report is done. I get windows security center reporting that I do not have an antivirus installed. The blue ball which is suppose to be spinning is stopped with a red circle at the bottom left side. I have tried to repair the installation and even installed and reinstalled but with no success.

I am getting the message “avast: AAVM subsystem has detected a RPC error”. Upon the recommended fix, I went to the windows services but DID NOT find any services listed for AVAST.

I have a feeling that something is stopping the services from starting in windows and I don’t know what services should be “started” in the windows operating system to properly install any antivirus.

Please help… I am going crazy trying to figure this out… :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Can you run an avast scanning? Is the computer infected?

No, I do not have any other antivirus installed…That is why “windows security center” is telling me that I do not have a antivirus installed. What services are necessary for antivirus to properly install. As I mentioned before…I don’t have any AVAST services listed in the windows services…

I am going crazy trying to figure this out.

Thanks for taking the time to answer…Please help.

I appreciate your help and effort… :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Please HELP this is driving me nuts… :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.

After that, I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. It will be good to accept the boot time scanning. Boot.
  6. Check and post the results.
