Avast Home install instructions for Ubuntu 8.X?

Hi,

Total newb here…

I’ve downloaded Avast Home on my XP machines and really like it. Works great!

I’m trying to learn Linux via Ubuntu 8.X so I thought I’d grab the Avast Home for Linux. I downloaded the .deb (since Ubuntu is based off Debian) package to my desktop and double clicked it. It then appeared to go out and get all the necessary stuff (packages?).

However, I can see no evidence that Avast Home is running on my Ubuntu 8.X machine. I’ve searched my home dir and can’t find anything Avast related. There’s also nothing in my Applications menu or “system tray” (or whatever it’s called under Ubuntu).

I’m guessing I need to run an install or something. Any help, please?

Many thanks in advance!

Rick

Wow, tough crowd in these forums. I guess you guys don’t feel much sympathy for newbs, huh?

Oh well.

Just in case another lost soul might need the answer, I found it in the Ubuntu forums (much more helpful place!).
