I’ve been using Avast! Home for several years. This year I got a new computer and downloaded a new Avast Home version and installed it in December of 08 and entered the license key. In July I got a warning that the key was about to expire. This was several months earlier than one year, but I requested a new key anyhow. I never received the new key. I requested a new key a second time and again I never received the key. Out of frustration, I uninstalled the old Avast Home and downloaded a new one. It installed fine, but still I haven’t received the license key. As I recall, the key was always sent quickly and I didn’t have to wait longer than a few of hours. What’s going on? My e-mail doesn’t reject spam, and I was able to change my forum password and receive the confirmation e-mail and sign on to the web forum, so Alwil e-mail does get to me. Any suggestions?
Because avast (Alwil) recognises the original license still has time left (if you used the same email address) it normally just sends a copy of that valid license.
So why would it report it as running out, check your system date day, month and year and adjust as required, this is the most common cause.
So why aren’t you receiving the emails, the registration emails are sent automatically to the email address that you entered. The most common reason for non-receipt are ISP/email server anti-spam tools.
Try re-registering again using a different email, many have used a free Yahoo account and that has managed to receive the email. This would have the dual benefit of a) getting the email and b) you would get a new key that would have 14 months left on the updates expiration.
I just checked with my ISP to make sure they are not blocking register@register.avast.com. They are not. I double checked my Thunderbird EM client to make sure it is not blocking anything.
Oddly, ONE of my requests for a duplicate license key arrived yesterday and it was from support@avast.com. This is only license received from about a 1/2 dozen requests that I made. I still have not received the license key for the Avast! Home that I installed a couple of days ago.
I used this number to register my newly installed copy of Avast! Home. I suppose that means I will have to request another license key in about 5-6 months. The license communications problems remain. At this point it seems the problem is on the Avast! side, but Avast! must send out many, many registration e-mails every day, so I don’t see how Avast can have a problem and not be aware of it.
If this happens the next time I request a registration key, I will just have to switch to something like AVG.
Well… you can go further…
When something is going on with the registry key (usually takes 20-30 seconds to be received), better is check the email with webmail (and check antispam folder/features of your ISP).
Good suggestion. I just checked web mail and my anti spam isn’t blocking anything. There also was nothing in the spam folder. I guess I have to just hope the problem goes away by the time I have to renew the license.
Everything else with my e-mail is working just as it should. My last successful registration e-mail from register@register.avast.com was in June 11, 2009 for a different computer that I have. This license key was sent to the same e-mail address that I am using now. I haven’t changed anything since that time.
We, users, hope they change the registration process to an automated one, during installation.
