From time to time im having problems opening up Outlook 2007 it just hangs and i have to ALT, CTRL and Delete and close it. When i restart it i have an error "Outlook experienced a serious problem with the avast 4 add in, if you have seen this message multiple times you should disable this add in and check to see if an update is available, do you want to disable this add in Yes or No.
Im using Windows XP Pro SP2 with all the latest updates.
Avast Version 4.71098, VPS Version 080108-0. I have no other Antiviruses installed and havn’t done in the past either… and no other security programs.
I have checked the error in Event Logs but when i click on the link to view on the internet it says theres no more information available about the error.
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
i have just repaired the installation so will keep u posted over the next few days.
As i said its not happening everytime i open Outlook, its happened 4 times since last saturday but its annoying and im afraid it may damage the Outlook file and will loose emails when it crashes.
No, this was a new install on a new hard disk after a virus of some sort infected my hard disk and completely took out the MBR on the drive. Its a new Maxtor\Seagate 320 SATA II where as before i had a 250 GB Hitachi SATA II.
