Hi, hope anyone can provide some help in this matter.
i am trying to install avast home edition Version 4.8.1351 using “/silent” but after completing the installation the program doesn’t work.
i tried to install the regular way and it worked fine. when comparing the files deployed in the Program Files directory i found that when using the “/silent” parameter the deployed files are less than when installing the regular way.
This is not how silent installation works.
It’s only available in Professional version.
Silent installation of avast!
This option, intended especially for network administrators, makes it possible (and easy) to install avast! on other computers, without involving the other computer users. The installation can be carried out with pre-defined program and scan settings.
To create the silent installation:
Install avast! on one computer.
Modify the avast! settings as you want them to be on the other computers.
Set the scan parameters as required.
If required, set a password to access the real-time shield settings.
Select File > Create Silent Installation.
Set the parameters of the silent installation:
* Silent mode - During the installation on the target computers, only error messages will be displayed.
* Very silent mode - During the installation on the target computers, no messages will be displayed.
* Installation path - Enter the folder in which avast! should be installed (by default, %PRGFILES%\Alwil Software\Avast4).
* No reboot - avast! normally requires the computer to be restarted after installation. If you select this option, the reboot will not be requested.
* Ask for reboot - When the installation is finished, the user will be asked to reboot.
If neither No reboot nor Ask for reboot is checked, the system will be restarted automatically when the installation is finished.
Click the Create button.
Select the folder where the files necessary for the silent installation should be stored.
The following two files will be written to the selected folder: admin.ini and tasks.xml. The file admin.ini contains the settings of the avast! program, the file tasks.xml contains the relevant scan settings. If a password was set for the real-time shield settings, there will be another file in the target folder: aswResp.dat; this contains the encrypted password to access the real-time shield settings.
Put these two or three files into a shared folder.
Put the avast! installer into the same folder.
On the target computers, start the avast! installation from this folder.
A couple hours ago I erased avira with revo uninstaller and replaced it with avast. I just tried to reboot the pc and a avast scan came on and for the life of me I could not get the thing to stop scanning even though I unplugged the thing twice.
Now that the scan is over I am unable to do anything with the computer. It wont even let me get in and boot the computer in safe mode. In addition there is a note saying: A0036701.exe is infected by win 32: trojan-gen
How in the world am I going to get into my computer so that I can use my anti virus and maleware downloads?
i used to install in the older versions with the “/silent” parameter and it went fine.
this happened only in the new version 4.8.1351
the installation is completed in the silent mode but not all the files are copied to the destination folder i.g. (Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\english)
i think this is a bug in the setup file!!
