Avast icon missing in system tray

avast antivirus software issue

I use avast home edition and think it is the best. It has caught viruses and worms where Norton overlooked. This has happened on many occasions so I finally ditched Norton. The problem I am having now though is I don’t have the icon that shows up by the clock. My other computer has it just fine. I need to have it on my main computer because it’s the only way I can switch off the outgoing mail scanner. My outlook express hangs up long time when sending mail because of this. I have been able to go to the settings on avast and I have the box checked to show the icon in system tray but it is not there. Don’t know why they don’t have the ingoing and outgoing mail in the settings but they don’t and I must have this icon to get to it. Any hints as to why it’s not showing when in fact it is definitely running? Thanks,
Rock

This can occure for a number of reasons, one being the presence of another AV or remnants of one. This is a program removal tool, which can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
